The Opportunity

We are seeking a Maintenance Operations Manager to join our Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Services team supporting the support the following platforms at RAAF Base Amberley: Boeing Airpower Teaming System (ATS), P-8A Poseidon, C-17A Globemaster, F/A-18F Super Hornet, EA-18G Growler and E-7A Wedgetail.

The Maintenance Operations Manager is responsible for providing leadership, strategic planning and technical guidance for multi-skilled support teams across multiple site locations. This new role will provide the successful applicant an exciting management opportunity in a unique, fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate is to be both a creative and dedicated individual who will harmonise and lead a collaborative culture. This position requires the leadership skills necessary to make decisions with sound judgment, to train and mentor maintenance employees for improved performance, and guide the day-to-day operations successfully.

To be successful, the qualified candidate requires the utmost professionalism, integrity and work ethic while possessing a visionary skill-set that will successfully carry the team into the future.


  • Ensure the 145 maintenance organisation delivers serviceable aircraft to meet the flying program in a manner that is compliant with DASR regulations and the BDA exposition
  • Maintain and proactively progress governance actions; manage risk assessment requirements by ensuring all risk assessments are conducted prior to use of new equipment in the maintenance facility; coordinate Risk Assessment (RA) review process; and raise and develop new RAs as required
  • Ensure scheduled maintenance events are completed in the planned timelines
  • Coordinate the maintenance requirements for deployments, secondary missions and aircraft recoveries
  • Develop processes as required to improve work flow/performance
  • Manage employee's leave and rosters; process time sheets; and confirm staff mandatory training has been completed


  • Strong background and in-depth knowledge of maintenance requirements
  • Ability to continually improve the team's performance and work processes through feedback, problem solving and idea generation
  • Skills to develop and implement new policies, and procedures that will enhance Wedgetail Deeper Maintenance operations
  • A minimum of five years' military or commercial aircraft maintenance experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office products
  • Hold Certificate IV in Aero Skills (desirable)
  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet Defence security requirements, and have the ability to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) Defence security clearance.
