This role provides accounting advisory services to the segments and other group functions, bringing business and accounting insights and how that impacts the Group.

You will develop and maintain your network internally and externally to support in providing those insights. We are looking for someone who to pro-actively partner across finance teams to identify key accounting matters and determine the appropriate accounting treatment.

You will be able to clearly communicate complex accounting issues to non-specialists and to be able to interpret and practically apply accounting standards to proposed transactions, as well as maintaining accounting policies and guidance. This role will also provide training on new and existing accounting standards to connect those accounting standards to their impact on the Qantas Group.

You will also play an important role leading the Accounting review as part of TILTA, in providing accounting sign-off on contracts for review and preparing relevant audit committee papers detailing accounting transactions and their impact on the Group

Additionally, a key skill in this role is the ability to write high quality accounting papers, determine complex accounting judgments and interpret complex accounting estimates along with the Head of External Reporting & Advice.

This role also supports the External Reporting team in planning and delivering the Group’s external financial reporting requirements at half-year and year-end.

You’ll have:

  • Strong technical accounting skills with previous experience in an accounting technical role in an ASX listed corporate or a Mid-Tier / Big Four Accounting Firm or demonstrated experience on technical issues on large audit clients

  • Experience implementing recent new accounting standards (AASB 15 and/or AASB 16)

  • The ability to grasp complex issues and communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner

  • Ability to research and provide relevant technical guidance to solve complex accounting problems

  • Strong intellectual curiosity, with an eagerness to learn and develop own technical knowledge and ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • A strong analytical mindset with a meticulous eye for detail, whilst still being able to see the longer strategic vision for the Group

  • The ability to work within deadlines with a high degree of flexibility and engage other employees to provide data as required

  • A good understanding of and experience in working with Hyperion Financial Reporting/MFR is beneficial

  • The right to live and work in Australia, a degree in a business-related discipline, with specific finance and accounting emphasis and CA qualified.
