We have an opportunity for an Environmental Specialist to join our team in Melbourne on a Full Time basis. This role will see you support a national telecommunications client with multisite operations across Australia by ensuring continued implementation, maintenance and improvement of Environmental System requirements incorporating our environmental goals and objectives. They will ensure worker and environment protection systems, process and equipment are maintained and operated to achieve regulatory compliance and best industry practice. The role will also ensure that all operational and regulatory compliance needs are met and maintain accreditation.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Apply, enforce and monitor compliance to Client's HS&E policies associated with the contract
  • Apply, enforce and monitor compliance with all ISS HSEQ policies, procedures and systems, including all associated Commonwealth and State statutory regulations
  • Identify safety and environmental hazards and follow through to control hazards and escalate as required
  • Monitor and recommend improvements to enhance the effectiveness of the safety systems, behaviors and practices
  • Implement the Energy Management program with the specific responsibilities:
  • Utility information management, analysis, budgeting and report generation as well as performance tracking of energy reduction measures.
  • In conjunction with operating personnel (Facility Managers, BMS Operators, HSE Advisor etc.)
  • Identify buildings requiring energy audits.
  • Recommend to Facility Managers which energy measures should be focused on for further analysis and help with implementation.
  • Coordinate training for staff on relevant energy topics.
  • Assist as required in the definition phase of energy projects:
  • Investigate and review assumptions, savings calculation methodology as well as technical and economic feasibilities and make recommendations.
  • Review energy analysis reports for presentation to the client and its approval.
  • Acts as a resource to management and field staff regarding energy management.
  • Promote the installation of energy efficiency equipment and products, for deepening customer awareness of and participation in rebate programs and utilities energy efficiency program
  • Develop, recommend, and implement solutions to eliminate pollution and environmental hazards
  • Perform research and report findings on the current environmental conditions.
  • Implement spill prevention programs and hazardous waste regulations
  • Oversee waste disposal and pollution control programs
  • Review and recommend improvements to existing environmental programs for compliance assurance
  • Provide guidance and direction to management for ensuring environmental compliance
  • Comply with record management and document control standards
Selection Criteria
  • A tertiary environmental engineering or environmental science degree or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS Act, Regulations and Codes
  • Formal Qualifications in OHS
  • Knowledge of ISO 9000, AS/NZS 4801 and ISO 14001
  • Knows industry trends and best practice for Environment and energy. Proactively applies best practise initiatives
  • Balances legislative and business needs in safety. Considers both the short and long term repercussions of all risk assessments and how they will impact upon operations
  • Explores alternatives, understands broad implications and makes recommendations which are practical and results oriented.
  • Strong ability to lead and influence management on environmental related issues
  • Demonstrated capacity to build integrity and trust in a team and with customers
  • Manages conflict with empathy and integrity supporting harmonious relationships.
  • Has the ability to use IT systems to meet job requirements
  • Plans and manages projects according to set objectives, measure progress
  • Individual must have flexibility and mobility. Must be willing to undertake travel inter/intrastate for short periods of time
  • Has ability to use MS Office capably
  • Drivers' License
  • Ability to self-manage, work cooperatively and collaboratively with others and have a flexible approach to function effectively under pressure
  • Ability to problem solve and work to tight deadlines & timelines
  • Highly developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to consult effectively with clients and colleagues at all levels
  • Ability to provide the highest level of customer service in a continually changing environment with a strong emphasis on consistency and flexibility
