The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service is a not-for-profit organisation providing world class emergency response aeromedical, search and rescue services to those in need 24/7.The Service has more than 40 years of proud history, and now operates from three bases in NSW (Lismore, Belmont, Tamworth) in addition to a Head Office and aircraft maintenance facility based in Newcastle NSW.

We are looking for a hands-on ICT Manager to perform a combination of planning, governance, service delivery and support.

The role is based in Newcastle, Australia’s 7th largest city. Located 2 hours from Sydney with a population of 500,000, house prices are around two-thirds of those in Sydney and Melbourne, there are miles of uncrowded beaches, great schools, low unemployment, a vibrant restaurant scene, a wonderful harbor, and an escape from the capital city traffic nightmare.

The Environment

Work with a highly engaged team who put the service and community at the forefront of everything they do, with around 140 users across 4 sites, the IT environment is a mixture of modern cloud-based systems and legacy technology. The IT systems support all traditional shared services functions including Safety, HR, Finance, as well as additional specialised systems such as Fundraising, Aviation and Maintenance.

The Challenge

This is a newly created role following rapid growth in the organisation in recent years which now requires a strategic and holistic approach to ICT management. Working closely with the Senior Management team the role will develop a clear priority of projects and initiatives; and manage their implementation across the business. Importantly this role will work with the business unit leaders and act as the key ICT advisor to the senior management team to enable the achievement of broader organisational goals through effective use of technology across the organisation.

To be successful in this position
  • Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline or equivalent experience
  • Experience leading an ICT function in a small to medium enterprise including significant experience managing projects
  • Understanding of the principles of best practice project management
  • Understanding of ITIL principles
  • Experience in ICT planning and compliance
  • Broad technical background including an understanding of ICT security, applications, networking and cloud technologies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a written and verbal format
  • Inclusive approach to change management – able to engage the business and bring stakeholders along the transformation journey.
