Full Job Description
This will be a temporary, full time position until end of term 3, 2021. The College is seeking a highly effective instructional leader who is capable of enacting and monitoring the Explicit Improvement agenda. This is an opportunity for an aspiring leader to continue their leadership journey and build a rewarding career educating students in this unique environment. Ideally, the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate capability to meet the accountabilities of a quality teacher, knowledge of the Australian Curriculum, specifically in the learning areas: humanities, languages, HPE and the secondary context.

About Tagai State College - Thursday Island Campus

Thursday Island Secondary Campus is known as Waybeni Koey Ngurpay Mudh and is the only secondary school at Tagai State College. Tagai State College is unique and unlike any other school delivering high quality education and training services.

There are 17 campuses and a TAFE facility spread across 15 islands and 48,000 square kilometres in the beautiful Torres Strait.

Waybeni Koey Ngurpay Mudh students' transition to the secondary campus from 16 outer and inner island schools and approximately 70 students board at two residential colleges on Thursday Island.

Waybeni Koey Ngurpay Mudh has a total student enrolment of approximately 378 students with the majority being of Torres Strait Islander and/or Aboriginal descent whilst a very small percentage of students are from non-Indigenous backgrounds.

The Indigenous students speak a number of traditional languages and this great gift is valued within the school and embedded into the curriculum offerings. Waybeni Koey Ngurpay Mudh offers a co-educational service from Years 7-12.

The Campus has a very dedicated and dynamic leadership team comprising a Head of Campus, 2 X Deputy Principals and 4 X Heads of Departments who have developed a robust improvement agenda, which they are implementing with fidelity.

Travel to outer islands via light aircraft is also required on occasion to facilitate the partnership between the primary and secondary campuses.
