JOB DESCRIPTION

RMIT Training is seeking applications from interested teachers qualified to teach Chemistry plus one other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) course to international students in our Foundation Studies program. This is a full-time fixed-term contract to commence from July 2021 and cease 31 December 2021. Part-time applications will be considered.

The RMIT Training Foundation Studies Program meets Australia’s National Standards for Foundation Programs. It is nationally recognised as a program that equips international students with the skills and capabilities to seek entry into higher education programs in Australia. This program is designed to prepare students for a seamless transition into a range of higher education programs. It develops a mix of discipline knowledge, academic English and study skills in a supportive, flexible and learner-centred environment. It aims to assist students to become independent, critical and lifelong learners and to maximise their potential for success in an Australian university context. About the role

As a Foundation Studies teacher, you will be responsible for the delivery of course material for STEM assessing students and the supervision of students enrolled in the course you are teaching.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

Essential

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in delivering and assessing both in face-to-face and online classes (using a Learning Management System such as Canvas).
  • Substantial discipline knowledge as it relates to this position.
  • Capacity to identify learning problems in students, propose and implement effective strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively as a constructive and proactive member of a team.
  • Demonstrated skills in the use of relevant information and communication technologies.
  • VIT registration or Current Working with Children Check.
  • A recognised degree relevant to the course being taught plus:
    • A formal teaching qualification AND
    • Minimum two years’ relevant teaching experience, including breadth of experience in delivering to students from non-English speaking backgrounds.
    • TESOL (English Language Teaching Qualification) is desired

Desirable

  • Experience teaching senior secondary school subjects.
  • Experience teaching international students at a secondary school level and or Foundation Studies level.
  • Proven collegiality and the ability to share ideas.
  • Knowledge of current pedagogical practices.
