Future Energy Technology Manager

Energy Transition and Decarbonisation is one of Ampol's four strategic pillars, a key priority area that will help ensure we deliver on our purpose to 'power better journeys today and tomorrow'.

Over the next few years Ampol will be working to evolve our energy offering to ensure we continue to meet the ongoing needs of our customers and deliver an energy offering that best leverages marketplace opportunities as they arise.

This will include developing new offerings, leveraging of existing capabilities, and transforming our business and operations to meet the ongoing energy needs for customers in all jurisdictions which we operate.

As one of Australia's lead mobility enablers, the development of electric vehicles and other non-traditional transport fuels present an opportunity for Ampol to decarbonise the transport market and leverage our existing position into clean charging infrastructure.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Future Energy Technology Manager.

About the role:

The role of the Future Energy Technology Manager will be responsible for creating and owning the technology vision, roadmap and architecture for the newly created Energy Transition and Decarbonisation business unit and working closely with the Future Energy team in the development of the overarching technology strategy, management of the innovation pipeline, planning and prioritisation.

You will be reporting to the Chief Operating Officer - Energy Transition & Decarbonisation, as direct manager and the Head of Technology, as functional manager. Cross functionally the role will work closely with the IT Director, GM Electricity, Head of Hydrogen, Project ad Program Managers, ITLT members as well as vendors.

This role is Sydney based. Our Head Office is currently located int the Sydney CBD but will be undertaking a permanent office move to Alexandria mid this year. This is a permanent full-time opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:

The role includes creating innovative technology solutions which are fit for purpose and in some cases outside of the box and overseeing a project portfolio for the development, deployment, and ongoing management of strategic and business critical solutions.

  • Business Partnership- Think customer experience and drive operational efficiency by putting customers (internal& external) and value generation at the heart of all decision making
  • Delivery- Lead and contribute to business decisions and strategies, where IT has a major influence on the operational capabilities, competitive advantage and/or profitability of the business unit.
  • Architecture- Collaborate with the Future Energy leaders to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support IT solutions to enable the achievement of the strategy and objectives for energy transition
  • Applications Management - In conjunction with Enterprise Architecture principles, instil application management disciplines that consider cost-effective enhancement, configuration, support and integration of applications

About you:

You will hold a territory degree in IT, Business or a relevant discipline and have a minimum of 10 years commercial IT experience, ideally with 5 years in senior IT/business partnership roles

  • Solid experience working with outsource and other third parties.
  • Proven experience and track record in the successful implementation of IT projects and the on-going lifecycle - operations, maintenance and support.
  • Experience in working with the business to understand requirements and translate them into technology solutions, designing and implementing applications to support business process and customer engagement.
  • Extensive general IT experience (applications and/or infrastructure) including systemic knowledge of IT development, operational and change management processes and methodologies
  • Knowledge of existing and emerging technology trends, the business capabilities and benefits derived from these technologies for energy transition
  • Strong planning, prioritisation, organisational skills and the capacity to be flexible in balancing priorities to meet/exceed customer needs
