About the role:

Nova Systems currently has two ongoing immediate, permanent opportunities for Systems Engineers with experience in Safety Engineering to work on major Defence acquisition programs based in Adelaide. You will provide systems engineering and safety engineering consultancy services to Nova's clients supporting a Maritime or Aerospace acquisition opportunity.

What you will be involved in:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Systems Engineering and Safety Engineering;
  • Requirements analysis and devolution;
  • Input to Safety Case achievement to meet client and regulatory requirements;
  • Application of system safety analytical techniques for Haz ID and Hazard Analysis via methods including HAZOPS, Functional Hazard Analysis, FTA/ETA + Bow-Tie, FMECA;
  • Ensuring the system level engineering safety analysis correctly reflects the systems as designed, implemented and operated;
  • Review and guide development of vendor document deliveries to ensure all engineering aspects are accounted for, to a level acceptable to the customer; and
  • Assist with training or mentoring of junior consultants, clients or vendor staff to achieve required program activities and outcomes.

What we would like from you:

  • Engineering degree or experience working in a relevant field;
  • Experience working in system safety engineering on major projects;
  • Understanding and application of the full product development lifecycle;
  • Understanding and experience with MIL-STD-882 or comparable safety engineering standards tasks, requirements and key outputs;
  • 5+ years of relevant experience;
  • Australian Citizen with the ability to obtain AGSVA clearance.

Desirable experience:

  • Previous experience on major Defence acquisition safety programs or elements;
  • Use of engineering techniques and support tools such as DOORS and Goal Structure Notation;
  • Experience within Australian Defence Maritime, Land or Aerospace materiel systems and regulatory compliance requirements;
  • Well-developed communication skills for managing stakeholders and conveying technical risk issues;
  • Able to produce high quality solutions and effective document deliverables to required project time frames;
  • Independent Safety Assessment experience also highly regarded.
