The Opportunity

We are seeking a qualified, experienced Project Chief Engineer to lead and develop the engineering team for the Wedgetail AEWUK Mk1 Program, from either Williamtown or Brisbane locations. The Wedgetail AEW Mk1 Program will deliver an Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) capability to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD).

The Project Chief Engineer Will Oversee Design, Development And Delivery Of Ground Based Support Systems To Boeing Defence UK In Support Of Their Contract With The MoD Including

  • Up to four Deployable Mission Support Systems (DMSS)
  • A Distributed Operational Mission Simulator (D-OMS)
  • An AEW&C Support Facility (ASF)
The Project Chief Engineer will also oversee support service to Boeing Defence Space and Security in the areas of AMS software development, training and other specialist areas. You will be responsible for the technical integrity of BDA's entire scope in the program.

This position will report to the BDA Commercial Derivative Aircraft business unit Chief Engineer and will support the AEWMk1 Project manager to deliver against the contract.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure an efficient and effective Engineering Management System (EMS) is in place to support all BDA activities supporting the AEW Mk 1 program.
  • Ensuring BDA engineers and projects in the AEW Mk 1 program are operating within an appropriate EMS to deliver first-time quality.
  • Oversight and governance of the AEW Mk 1 GSS technical baseline, particularly ensuring compliance with safety and security standards, regulations and legislation, both domestic (Australian) and international (United Kingdom).
  • Assisting the program management and engineering teams in the identification and timely resolution of technical issues to maintain cost and schedule targets of the program.
  • Collaboration with international counterparts to ensure that a One Boeing approach to engineering products and services is adopted.
  • Work closely with the Australian Wedgetail Chief Engineer to leverage synergies for the benefit of both programs.
  • Other responsibilities in accordance with PRO-BDA-10.
Experience

/Qualifications
  • 15 years+ as a Tertiary Engineer or suitable technical qualification, with senior level design experience. Defence aircraft experience is strongly regarded.
  • Demonstrated engineering qualifications and experience sufficient to satisfy eligibility criteria for chartered status with the Institute of Engineers Australia.
  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and resolving technical issues across software, security, systems, electrical and mechanical engineering disciplines.
  • Excellent communicator, people oriented and able to manage multiple tasks effectively while working to schedule commitments.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills.
  • Experience in technical leadership in a major project environment.
