Due an increase in work in the security space, we have an exciting opportunity for a Security Risk Consultant to join our wider Resilience, Security, and Risk offering focusing on Security Risk Management and Security Strategy activities. You’ll manage specific smaller projects or parts of larger projects, manage clients as well as run topic-specific workshops. This role can be based either in the Sydney or Melbourne Arup office, reporting directly into the local team leader.

About you
You’ll be a passionate and adaptable client-centric consultant who is keen to grow and develop your skills and capabilities while working on high impact projects. You’ll also bring the following:

  • Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in Security Risk Management, Counterterrorism, Criminology, Security Studies or similar;
  • Relevant industry experience in Security Risk Management within a consulting environment with working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and guidelines.
  • Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies or significant credit towards eligibility for membership;

About the role
The primary focus of the position is to provide specialist security risk and consultancy services for a variety of clients and projects ranging from the infrastructure space to commercial, sport, aviation, and arts and culture markets. The role requires a person with a broad knowledge of security risk management and risk assessment methodologies. The RSR team are a diverse set of experts with different key skills and the successful candidate will be required to employ world best-practice approaches to bring commercially focussed security solutions to clients’ business activities. The role operates primarily within the NSW and VIC/SA marketplace and will contribute to the other services provided by Arup’s Resilience, Security & Risk practice within the Australasia Region and the globe. Specifically, you will be involved in the following types of activities:


  • Preparing & delivering security reports like Threat Vulnerability & Risk Assessment (TVRA), security planning and CPTED analysis.
  • Understanding the security risk and design process and the approach to formulate security requirements for different client requirements.
  • Liaising with clients and stakeholders to confirm security requirements during the design process and providing detailed technical security inputs to advise best outcomes.
  • Preparing & delivering design documentation and coordinating design related issues with other disciplines.
