The Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (CDSCC) supports ground-based spacecraft telecommunications as part of the international National Aeronautic Space Administration (NASA) Deep Space Network (DSN), under contractual arrangements between the NASA and Commonwealth Scientific Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

As the Purchasing & Procurement Officer with CDSCC, you will work under routine direction and broad supervision. You will have responsibility for compiling information and records to prepare purchase orders for the procurement and receipt of material from local and interstate suppliers.

In this role you will:
  • Respond courteously and efficiently to requests for services, keep clients informed and redirect requests as appropriate.
  • Coordinate the local, interstate, and overseas purchase of items.
  • Process purchase requisitions in accordance with established procedures, using Maximo and SAP.
  • Liaise with team leaders and managers to ascertain purchasing requirements.
  • Review quotes to determine value for money.
  • Track and manage the satisfactory completion of all purchase orders.
  • Review suitability and levels of stock items and determine appropriate supply chain solutions.
  • Liaise with CSIRO finance to reconcile Maximo and SAP databases.
Location: Canberra Deep Space Communications Complex, Tidbinbilla

Salary: AU$66k - AU$81k pa (pro-rata for part-time), plus up to 15.4% superannuation (eligible for Tracking Station Allowance and Fleet Transport)

Tenure: Specified term of 10 months - full-time (preferred), part-time or job-share (if circumstances permit)

Residency: Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents (or individuals who meet the US Export Administration Regulations requirements)

To be considered you will hold relevant qualifications or have equivalent relevant work experience in Purchasing and/or Procurement. You will also have:

  • An Australian ‘C’ class driver’s licence (or equivalent).
  • Experience as a Purchasing Officer, interpreting and applying purchasing policies, principles, processes, and procedures.
  • The ability to manage competing demands, establish priorities, organise tasks, meet deadlines and escalate issues when required.
  • A history of proactivity and a willingness to expand knowledge and experience to broader areas of the business unit.
  • A history of professional and respectful behaviours and attitudes in a collaborative working environment.
  • Sound written, interpersonal and oral communication skills.
